Reality Scan (or formerly Reality Capture) is the powerful and professional photogrammetry tool we usually use in house. Since they have been acquired by EPIC Games they also offer a very generous free tier, so it’s also a great tool for those who want to go beyond end to end phone scanning apps and have more control!
There are a ton of great tutorials and documentation out there, so we won’t rehash this here but focus on things that are directly relevant for use with Puzzle Maker.
Processing in Reality Scan
Align Images Nothing special here for Puzzle Maker, you can follow general tutorials if you have trouble to get your images aligned
Adjust your Reconstruction Region We recommend chosing a tight fit around the area you want to have as puzzle later
Reconstruct with Normal Detail High Detail will lead to very high poly counts that will only get simplified away again later, adding unnecessary processing time
Simplify to 500k Polygons use the Simplify Tool (Scene 3D / Tools / Simplify) to reduce the model to 500k polygons.

Get rid of the “Box” Reality Scan will often create a box around part or sometimes even the entire model to make it watertight. This is not needed for Puzzle Maker and often makes the puzzle less fun. You can use the Cut tool (Scene 3D / Tools / Cut) to cut it away. Simply make the reconstruction box slightly smaller by moving the red, green and blue dots slightly inward, set fill holes to false and then use cut outer.

Texture We recommend texturing into a single 8k texture
Export We recommend exporting as GLB (details see Reality Scan Export & Puzzle Maker Import)
When exporting your model as obj using the default settings in Reality Scan it will not be rotated correctly in Puzzle Maker.
To fix this use the Custom Mesh Euler Rotation X = 90, Y = 180 under Advanced Settings (see screenshot)
