Installing a UGC Puzzle

You have two ways to install puzzles to play in the Steam version. At the moment, other platforms are not supported.

After you have finished processing the puzzle in Puzzle Maker, you can either publish to Steam Workshop, or you can manually copy and paste the .puzzle file into the right folder.

From your Puzzlemaker library, click on the image of the puzzle you’d like to publish to the Steam Workshop.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click ‘Publish to Steam Workshop’.

From here, you can update your puzzle’s title, description, preview image, visibility & Metadata. This section should be pre-populated based on the information provided earlier.

When publishing your Puzzle to the Steam Workshop, you have a few visibility options:

Once you are ready, click ‘Next’. Review the options on the next page, then click ‘Publish’ (This may take a few minutes). Once it is completed, a green banner reading “Your Puzzle is Published” will appear.

Keep in mind that publishing to Steam will put your private puzzle online. Check the visibility settings in Steam Workshop carefully to make sure you are only sharing when you want to. Alternatively, you can keep your puzzle local and play it locally.

Next, open the game. Go to the User Created tab and click the Browse button in the top right. Search for the puzzle you published to Steam Workshop. Once you find it, subscribe to the item and return to the game. Steam will download the puzzle automatically after you subscribe, but this can take a few minutes. After a couple of minutes, refresh the library view and you will see your puzzle, ready to play.

Manually Copying the Puzzle

If you want to play your puzzle locally without uploading to Steam Workshop, you will need to manually copy the .puzzle file.

Open Puzzle Maker, go to the Library, and open the puzzle you processed. In the Overview section, click Local Path. This will open the folder containing the .puzzle file. This is the file you need to copy to your game folder. This folder is in your steam games install folder. For example:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Puzzling Places - where everything fits!\PuzzlingPlaces\UGP

Now open Puzzling Places on Steam. Go to the User Created tab and click the folder icon in the top right.

This will open the folder where you need to copy the .puzzle file. Once you have copied it over, refresh the library and your puzzle will be there!
